Case study · Early-career professional

From university student to internship-ready professional.

How we connected education, skills and project work into a clear professional story and a website the student can use throughout his internship search.

At the start of a career, the evidence of professional potential looks different. Instead of a long employment history, it may be found in education, projects, emerging expertise and the ability to learn. The challenge is making those pieces add up to a story that an employer can quickly understand.

This project supported a university student preparing to apply for internships. The aim was to go beyond a basic online CV and create a coherent professional identity, supported by a practical platform that could grow with him.

The challenge: making potential visible

Students can have relevant skills, coursework and project experience without an established professional track record. A CV alone may not provide enough context for an employer to understand what they can do, how they approach problems or what they could contribute to a team.

The task was to identify the strongest evidence in the student’s background, shape it into a clear story and give that story a useful home.

The approach: discover, position, build

1. Discover the evidence

We worked through the student’s education, skills, projects and experience to identify the most relevant material and the strengths it demonstrated. Rather than starting with a generic template, we started with the evidence he already had.

2. Define a professional identity

We shaped that evidence into a coherent narrative: who he is, what he can do, what he is learning and what he could bring to an internship. The goal was to present a credible candidate, not to inflate experience or make claims the evidence could not support.

3. Build a working platform

We turned the narrative into a dedicated professional website, organising the student’s background and work so that potential employers could explore it in one place. The website gives him a shareable destination for applications and a foundation he can keep improving as his experience grows.

What we built

  • Professional narrative: a clearer explanation of his background, strengths and direction.
  • Evidence-led presentation: a structured way to communicate education, skills and project work.
  • Dedicated website: a central, shareable platform to support internship applications.
  • Foundation for growth: a site he can update as he completes projects, develops new skills and gains professional experience.

The important part is not the website in isolation. It is the connection between the student’s evidence, the story that explains it and the platform that makes it accessible.

Progress in the internship search

The student is now actively applying for internships, has come close to securing a role and is very happy with the work. This is encouraging progress, although it would be premature to attribute a particular recruitment outcome to the website alone.

What the project has provided is a clearer way to present his potential and a tangible professional platform he can use throughout the search.

What this demonstrates

Professional identity is not reserved for experienced executives. Early in a career, the raw material is different — education, projects, emerging skills and potential rather than decades of achievements — but the challenge is similar: connect the evidence, make the value clear and give it a platform that works.

This project shows how the same principles can be adapted to an early-career professional without pretending that a student should present themselves like a seasoned executive.

Make the value of your work visible, then build something that keeps working for you.
